    Description

    NGC Gem Proof Ultra Cameo! Pure California Gold!
    This was privately struck in 2009 to the commemorate .00 Gold Octagonal Slug of 1852 and is 2.5 oz Troy 999.9 Thous. Fine Certified Pure California Gold.
    The obverse of this .00 slug Gold commemorative shows an eagle with wings spread partially behind a rock and shield. Above the eagle is a banner with the legend 999.9 THOUS, which is the fineness of the gold. The design is encircled with the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" with "PURE CAL. GOLD" below. A circle of beads surrounds this inscription. On the outside of the beads is another inscription "AUGUSTUS HUMBERT UNITED STATES ASSAYER OF GOLD CALIFORNIA" with the 1852 date below.
    The slug, also called a quintuple eagle and a five-eagle piece.
