  • Condition: PURCHASED USED IN THE 1970s, DURING ONE OF MY WORLDWIDE TRIPS-- PROBABLY IN AFRICA (WHERE THEY ARE MASTERS AT USING RECYCLED MATERIALS). WITH SOME OXIDATION AND A FEW SCUFFS AND SCRATCHES, IT LOOKS QUITE OLD AND AUTHENTIC, AND ALTHOUGH THE THE THREE 11" TINES ARE QUITE RUSTED, THEY'RE STILL STRONG AND FULLY FUNCTIONAL, AND THE ALUMINUM CONDUIT USED FOR THE SHAFT IS STILL IN FINE CONDITION. THE RUBBER "SLINGSHOT" GIVES IT THAT EXTRA QUICK THRUST TO CATCH THE PREY BEFORE IT HAS A CHANCE TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY. PURCHASED DURING THE 1970s, IT'S ALREADY VINTAGE-- AND POSSIBLY ANTIQUE.

    Description

    HARPOON, SLINGSHOT FISHING SPEAR, 47" FULLY FUNCTIONING AND WORKING VINTAGE, AND POSSIBLY ANTIQUE.  PROBABLY MADE IN AFRICA, AS WERE MANY OF THE MORE PRIMITIVE WEAPONS I PURCHASED IN THE 1970s (I ALSO HAVE BUSHMEN BOW AND POISON ARROW SETS, WALKING STICKS, ETC.).  IT IS 47" LONG, WITH A 19" RUBBER SLING AND MADE OF ALUMINUM AND STEEL, WITH A GRIP OF BLACK PLASTIC TAPE OVER CORD WRAPPED AROUND THE SHAFT. THE OXIDATION, SCUFFS AND THE MINOR SCRATCHES ALL COMBINE TO MAKE IT LOOK AMAZINGLY AUTHENTIC, AND THE RUSTED TINES (WHICH ARE STILL QUITE STRONG AND STRUCTURALLY SOUND) MAKE IT LOOK EVEN MORE SO.
